By Ian R. Cook MD, Medical Director | Clinical Education Series | Santa Clarita, CA

On the September 25, 2026, episode of The Daily Buzz, hosts Martha Aguilera and Rick Garcia featured Dr. Ian R. Cook of the SCV Wound Care and Hyperbaric Center. During the segment, Dr. Cook explored how specialized medical treatments and hyperbaric oxygen therapy accelerate healing for complex conditions. He also shared what receiving the “Best of SCV” recognition means to the entire team and reaffirmed the clinic’s commitment to providing exceptional care to the Santa Clarita Valley community.

Bringing Specialized Medical Care to Santa Clarita

For patients dealing with chronic, non-healing wounds—such as diabetic foot ulcers, surgical complications, or radiation tissue injuries—standard treatment isn’t always enough. During the interview, Dr. Cook emphasized the critical role that specialized, evidence-based interventions play in reversing difficult clinical courses and preventing severe complications like amputations.

By combining advanced topical dressings, debridement, offloading and dedicated hyperbaric protocols under one roof, SCV Wound Care provides Santa Clarita Valley residents with comprehensive care tailored to complex healing needs.

How Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) Accelerates Healing

A central topic of the conversation was Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT), one of the most powerful, non-invasive modalities used at the center.

How HBOT Works:

  1. 100% Medical-Grade Oxygen: Patients relax inside a comfortable, pressurized monoplace chamber where they breathe pure oxygen.

  2. Deep Tissue Saturation: Under pressure, oxygen dissolves directly into the blood plasma, reaching damaged tissues that suffer from poor blood flow.

  3. Stimulating Cellular Repair: The elevated oxygen levels promote new blood vessel growth (angiogenesis), fight off resistant infections, and dramatically speed up the body’s natural tissue recovery process.
